Salam sisters, this post is dedicated to all the Muslim sisters who have doubts of whether it is permissible for us Muslim women to remove the hair on our hand, legs, and other parts of our body. We have selected a few explanation taken from http://www.islamonline.net/

| Question | As-Salam-o-alaikam. Is it permissible to do the threading of upper lips, as hair of that area are quiet noticeable and heavy, or does it come under the ruling of eyebrows? |
| Answer | Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger. First of all, we would like to stress that all means to remove unwanted hair from the woman’s body are permissible provided that the use of such means doesn’t cause harm to the woman’s body. Muslim scholars stated that there is nothing wrong with women removing hair from their upper lips, thighs, legs and arms. This is not included in the category of plucking the eyebrows which is forbidden in Islam. All in all, the Muslim woman is to fear Allah and to avoid any act that may attract the attention of non-maharem men to her. The woman is fully permitted to beautify herself for her husband but she is not allowed to uncover her beauty beyond that. |

| Question | Dear scholar, I posted my question in the beginning of your last session but I think due to lack of time you could not answer my question. Please answer it today. 1. A saloon which is operated solely by women where different types of services to women like hair dressing, eyebrow plucking, sauna, facials, peeling, highlighting, coloring, body hair removal etc are provided. The business is owned by a Muslim. Shall it be considered permissible according to the Shari`ah? 2. As I have read that there are Nafs ammarah and nafsi mutma’innah within every soul. Now, if one has an issue and he thinks (in his subconscious mind) of a negative solution to that issue and immediately something from within tells him, NO, you should take the other path which is halal or permitted by Allah and yet immediately. A third instinct differing from both of these says, hold on though you should follow the permitted path yet there is a better solution to follow which is even more recommended and just. Please explain to me what is this third instinct? I sometimes wonder! |

To have this saloon for sisters the following conditions must be fulfilled: 1. Not to be mixed. Women should be in a separate closed area where men cannot see. 2. To avoid plucking eyebrows. Facial and hair removal is Ok. 3. To avoid any exposure of private parts for the sake of doing something that is not considered Islamically necessary. As for the second part of the question, the third is the nafs lawwamah which blames the sinful for the bad deeds he committed. click here for more info |
